On Saturday 23rd March 16 of our swimmers, mainly from the North of England and Scotland were lucky enough to attend a training day in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire. DSS-GB coach Keith Hall and Richmond Dales ASC hosted the event, which took place at Catterick Leisure Centre.

Early birds Cerys, Laura, Beth, Zac and Ellen who arrived on Friday evening jumped in the pool for an extra 2-hour training session with Richmond Dales ASC which they all thoroughly enjoyed. The Saturday morning began with some team building activities and classroom work when our swimmers learnt about race preparation. This was followed by an hour and a half pool session and then a well-deserved break for lunch.

No resting for our swimmers over lunch, everybody was given a Swimmer profile Questionnaire to complete to help Keith get to know our swimmers a bit better.  They answered questions about their training, diet, swimming events and favourite things!

It was then back to the classroom for some more brainstorming and visualisation exercises. Our guys particularly enjoyed a lie on the floor with their eyes closed listening to Sigma’s “Changing” whilst they visualised their races. Everybody learnt about self-talk and came away with some keywords such as POWER AND SPEED to remember as they prepare to race. More exercise followed with some energetic land training including a fun game of British bulldog and then another pool session with some fast racing to end a very busy day!

Our swimmers learnt so much thanks to Keith and his helpers Hollie, Chloe, Will, Carys and Amy. Many thanks to all involved and to Catterick Leisure Centre for the use of their facilities.
